Scientist, S. S. Research Foundation

Dr Sundar Shunmuga Velayutham’s research focuses on various aspects of aquatic invertebrates including species patterns, both taxonomic and functional diversity. He also concentrates on conservation, environmental and ecological assessment by combining basic and applied information on issues related to ecology and environment.

As biomonitoring is one of my areas of expertise, I am concentrating on freshwater monitoring including effluent contaminations and pollutions that pose dire threats to the system, biodiversity and human health. For this research, I often search to find relevant articles on specific topic from different online sources including Cochrane Library. I feel it is so easy to find for exactly what I am looking for on Cochrane as compared to other library sources. For the first time, I started using the Cochrane library for my MPhil dissertation on Fluoride contamination in rural ground water sources and its impacts in the year 2008. Since then I have been using Cochrane Library at least once in a week. Besides, I have a plan to deeply study a disease by using insects as a model. For this proposed future plan, I strongly believe that Cochrane will be a great asset. I have no doubt that using these resources from the Cochrane Library by public health researchers can really help and benefit patients.

As I needed some information about different types of cancer, I started searching relevant information and literature sources. I was surprised that Cochrane Library has a remarkably large number of articles on cancer. I think that Cochrane provides innovative approaches to healthcare quality and public health to improve community health. It also provides a great opportunity to the readers, from public health researchers and to anyone interested in health sciences, offering effective advice to authors to write strong case studies on various diseases.
